WSGA Players of the Year Kwon and Peters win high school state titles

Brittany Kwon of Bremerton, Wash. has won the 2018 3A High School Girls’ State Golf Championship, held at Indian Canyon GC in Spokane; while Kenedee Peters of Ephrata, Wash. has won the 2A state title, which was held at Horn Rapids GC in Richland, Wash.

Kwon was named the WSGA Junior Girls’ Player of the Year in 2016 and 2017, and Peters was the 2015 honoree.

For Kwon, who plays for Central Kitsap High School, this is the third year in a row she has won the state title. She’ll be a senior next year, and will be going for an unprecedented fourth high school state title. Kwon has already committed to play for the University of Washington women’s golf team after graduating.

This is the third state title for Peters, who also won it 2015 and 2017.

Last summer, Kwon won the PNGA Junior Girls’ Amateur, defeating Peters in the final match. It was the second title in that championship for Kwon. The two players teamed together and were qualifying medalists last fall at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball, a national championship which they competed in earlier this month.

Peters, a senior at Ephrata High School, has qualified for three U.S. Girls’ Junior Championships, and has verbally committed to attend Washington State University on a golf scholarship.

Also of note: Drew Warford of Snoqualmie, Wash., who attends Mount Si High School, won the 4A High School Boys’ State golf championship, held at Canyon Lakes GC in Kennewick, Wash. Warford won last summer’s PNGA Junior Boys’ Amateur.
