Three from Washington to compete in U.S. Senior Women’s Open



Three standouts from Washington will tee it up in the 2nd U.S. Senior Women’s Open, held May 16-19 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C.

Two professionals, JoAnne Gunderson Carner (Kirkland, Wash.) and Joanne Foreman (Bellevue, Wash.), will be joined by amateur Leslie Folsom (Tukwila, Wash.) in the 120-player field.

(a)-Leslie Folsom qualified for the championship last month through Sectional Qualifying in Tualatin, Ore. She is the reigning WSGA Senior Women’s Player of the year for 2018 having won the WSGA Senior Women’s Amateur, WSGA Senior Women’s Champion of Champions, and the WSWGA Senior Championship. Folsom’s caddie for the week is Victoria Fallgren, whom she teamed up with to win the 2018 WSGA Women's Best-Ball.

JoAnne Gunderson Carner

JoAnne Gunderson Carner, 80, is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and one of the most accomplished Women’s players in the history of the game. Carner won 41 times on the LPGA Tour and won eight USGA national championships, including two U.S. Women’s Opens. In last year’s inaugural championship, she shot her age (79) in the first round. In 1999 she was inducted into the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame.

Joanne Foreman won the 1983 U.S. Women’s Amateur and competed professionally for five years on the LPGA Tour, European Tour and Japanese Tour. She is a Class A LPGA Professional.
