The Evans Cup of Washington, held Monday, October 11, at Tacoma Country and Golf Club generated over $100,000 to benefit the Evans Scholarship Program.
Each year, the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA), Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) and Western Golf Association (WGA) Directors of Washington conduct this first-class event consisting of a day filled with golf, gourmet food, and upscale silent and live auction items.
The Evans Cup of Washington generated over $100,000 through sponsorships and silent and live auctions. The funds generated from this event helps support the Evans Scholars that attend the University of Washington and Washington State University. Presently, the WSGA, PNGA, and WGA Washington Directors support 24 Evans Scholars at the University of Washington and Washington State University, with each four year, full tuition, and housing grant valued at over $40,000 each.
The Evans Scholars Foundation, sponsored by the Western Golf Association, administers the nation’s largest privately funded college scholarship program, providing full tuition and housing grants to deserving caddies. Since the first two Scholars enrolled at
Northwestern University in 1930, over 9,000 young men and women have graduated from the program. This year, 850 Evans Scholars are enrolled at 18 universities across the country. In order for high school students to qualify they must be nominated by their golf club and meet the following four requirements: rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class, have a superior caddie record for two or more years, show financial need, and have outstanding personal character.
In 1922, the Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) was established in order to conduct our state amateur golf championship. Since its humble beginnings more than 85 years ago, the WSGA has evolved into one of the largest amateur golf associations in the , providing a multitude of benefits and services to approximately 75,000 individual men, women, senior, and junior members at over 550 member golf clubs and 260 golf courses throughout the state of Washington and
Northern Idaho. The WSGA also works tirelessly to promote, foster, and grow the game of golf in its region through its support of golf related charities and “good for the game” programs.
The WSGA is a 501(c)4 non-profit, amateur golf association governed by men and women volunteer, amateur golfers. The 25-person WSGA Board of Directors employs a full-time staff of 13 individuals. WSGA members pay an annual membership fee, through their golf club, to belong to the Association. The WSGA also serves as a state-wide representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and works closely with a number of allied associations within the golf industry for the betterment of the game.
