Euna Han Medals at U.S. Girls’ Junior Qualifier at Meridian Valley

Euna Han of Coquitlam, B.C. shot 1-under par 71 to earn medalist honors in qualifying to earn a spot in the 2017 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. The qualifier was held at Meridian Valley Country Club in Kent, Wash.

The other two players to advance from this qualifier are Brittany Kwon of Bremerton, Wash. and Lauryn Nguyen of Seattle, both shooting even-par 72 on the day, one shot back of Han.

The three players will advance to compete in the 2017 U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, which will be held July 24-29 at Boone Valley Golf Club in Augusta, Mo.

The Washington State Golf Association (WSGA) is the local representative of the United States Golf Association (USGA) and conducted this qualifier for the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship.

Han was the only player in the field to break par on the 6,233-yard layout. After 11 holes she was 3-over par, well outside the projected cutline. She then birdied four of her last seven holes – including the par-5 18th – to clinch medalist honors.

Han has won the 2014 BC Bantam Championship, and in 2015 won the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Pre-Season Open as a 13-year-old playing in the 15-19 age division. Earlier this year she won a Maple Leaf Junior Tour event by an astounding 17 strokes.

Last month, Kwon won her second consecutive WIAA 3A High School State Championship. She was named the 2016 WSGA Junior Girls’ Player of the Year.

Nguyen finished second in the 2016 Pacific Northwest Junior PGA Championship, in the 13-15 age division. Earlier this season she won the WJGA Eastern Open in the 14-15 age division.

The U.S. Girls’ Junior is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the USGA, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.

Founded in 1922, the WSGA is a 501c4 non-profit, amateur golf association governed by men and women volunteers. Serving over 68,000 individual members at more than 550 member golf clubs and 270 golf courses throughout the state of Washington and Northern Idaho, the WSGA works to continually expand the game of golf to people of all backgrounds.

The WSGA also serves as a statewide representative of the USGA and works closely with a number of allied associations within the golf industry for the betterment of the game.
